Many people spend more time on the internet in chat rooms then they do with other people. Is it depression that causes them to be on the internet so much? Or does the internet cause depression? Hmmmmm...

Exactly the point I was going to bring up. The assumption the article is making is that people who use the internet excessively become depressed. I'd counter this argument that people who are depressed tend to use the internet excessively, which is a reversal of the causality they're trying to infer.

How would the study-ers (and thereby the potential treat-ers TO BE) know unless they were on the internet as well in a equal presence?

Arad,
that is also what I think. People who are depressed use the internet excessively...

I was going to comment on this but I have been on the internet 27 hours a day all year and am depressed.

LOL! Funny:-))
I certainly can see how a person who is depressed could turn to the internet. It at least takes a person's mind off of their troubles...there are so many places to go, people to see, and things to do...it at least gives the illusion of that, lol:-)
